Klamath Humane Society

About Us

The Klamath Humane Society is the local animal shelter for Klamath County, Oregon. We are located at 500 Miller Island Road Klamath Falls, Oregon. We have been serving the needs of our communities’ stray and unwanted pets since 1969. We are a group of individuals committed to providing humane treatment for all animals. We are NOT a government agency. We are a nonprofit organization so 100% of all donations are kept and used in our local community. In 2002 we took in 3,451 cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, hamsters, birds, chickens, goats, horses, llamas, and potbellied pigs. We also care for a variety of other large animals that have been neglected and abused.

Our Objectives Are:

• To see that all animals are treated with kindness and respect.
• To prevent cruelty and inhumane treatment to all animals.
• To teach the principles of kindness and humane treatment for all animals.
• To assist all constituted authorities in the enforcement of anti-cruelty laws.
• Education of public about animal care, well being and laws regarding humane treatment when necessary.

Our Services Include:

• Our Shelter for lost, abandoned, injured, or sick animals.
• Our Adoption Service, placing animals into responsible permanent homes.
• Our Missing Pet Service, reuniting lost pets with their owners.
• Assisting animal owners with a low cost Spay and Neuter Service for qualified individuals and families.
• A Foster Service for abused and injured animals performed by volunteers.

Large Animal Division

The Klamath Humane Society has a Large Animal Division that enables specialized volunteers to concentrate on a variety large animal needs. These animals include horses, cows, sheep, pigs, and llamas.

Our plan is to educate animal owners who are not meeting the state's minimum care status. There are times when a neglect case can be solved simply by speaking with the owners and educating them in the proper feeding habits, veterinary care, and evaluations of their animals.
