The average cost to support the large animal division is between $5,000 and $10,000 depending upon the amount of horses we take in. It's all based on the variables of our volunteers providing transportation for animals, prices paid for feed supplies, and medical attention.

This is a perfect example of a throw away horse. He has been beaten, starved, and then taken to the Auction Yard where he was given away. He arrived at the shelter because we were asked to step in and care for him. Chester, has since put on weight and the sores on his whither have all healed. He was recently transported to Project Spirit, so he can be worked with several times a day helping him get over his fear of people.

Their owner surrendered them both because they could not care for them. They had been previously cared for by another person who starved them. Betsie, because she is younger, will always be stunted because of this cruel act. Both horses were taken to Klamath Humane Society and were cared for there until they were adopted by a wonderful couple. Star who was pregnant has since given birth to a little filly.

Their owner surrendered both of them to the Klamath Humane Society because they did not want to care for them. Both horses were piced up and taken to Project Spirit because they were serverely under weight. Gerdie also had a massive infection on her back tat required intense daily treatment. Gerdie has become a pasture mare and will live out her days at a rescue. Goober is currently in a foster home with great care and love. He is getting quite big.

Dodds Hollow Horses
Abandoned by their owner. One horse had already died of starvation before the neighbor’s reported that the horses and mules at this location were not being fed or watered. All of the remaining horses and mules rescued, have found wonderful, forever homes, where they are being loved and cared for. These animals were taken in pursuant to a search warrant by the Sheriff’s Department and cared for by the Klamath Humane Society.
